A surprisingly awesome phone call

Olin kaupungilla, kun sain soiton, ja oli tuntematon numero. Ei mulle ikinä soita tuntemattomat numerot! Kuka se vois olla, apua. Sitten sieltä kysyttiin, josko olin vielä kiinnostunut kesätöistä. No ihan varmasti olen! Ja yhtäkkiä sain työhaastattelun, tosta vaan :) Mulle tää on iso juttu, koska ei mulla ole mitään työhaastatteluita ennen ollut, eikä kunnon duunia. En kerro mihin tää haastattelu on. Muuten jos saan sen työn niin kaikki tulee stalkkaamaan (kaikki pelottavat vieraat jotka mun blogia lukee). Ei kai. Kyllä varmaan sen jossain vaiheessa paljastan, jos siis saan sieltä töitä. Oon kuitenkin nyt ihan yli-innostunut tästä asiasta, ja on aivan vitun hieno fiilis kun kerrankin vastaus ei ala sillä tavallisella "valitettavasti......". 

Tajusin tässä että maanantaina onkin sitten enkun kuuntelut, ja tästä lähtee YO-kokeiden eka osa. Kuuntelut on ollu aina mulle se vaikein juttu, joten saa nyt nähä. Kuitenki nää Suomen YO-kokeet on kovaa tasoa, ja varsinkin noi Englannin kuuntelut (kuullut huhua, että joku Oxfordin yliopiston professori oli tehnyt ton kuuntelun, eikä ollut pärjännyt kauheen hyvin - mutta liekö vaan huhuja) on monien mielestä hankalia. On se kumma kun kuunteluun kuuluu automaattistesti myös päättely - mikä näistä, a, b vai c, on eniten oikein. Siis vaikka useampi olisi oikein, niin pitää ymmärtää mitä korostetaan eniten. En tiiä menikö mulla jotain ohi, mutta kai niiden kokeiden pitäisi testata vain Englannin osaamista, ei päättelykykyä. Joskus mullakin menee harjotellessa esim. puolet väärin kuunteluissa, vaikka ymmärtäisin 98% löpinöistä, aina sen takia etten vaan osaa ymmärtää mikä vastaus on se oikeampi. 

Katotaan tuleeko kuunteluun jotain täysin mahdottomuuksia, kuten vaikka Scottiaksentilla jotain höpinää tai vaikka ristiriitasia vaihtoehtoja luomuperunoista ja krokotiileista.

There was a phone call a couple a days ago it went pretty much like this. I looked at my phone and wondered who could be calling me, some weird unidentified number. No random people usually call me, they're always someone I know. Unless it's a prank call at night, which is just pathetic. I picked up. They asked me whether I was still interested in a summer job that I applied to! I was not expecting that kind of phone call, so I was beyond excited. Of course I said yes yes yes, absolutely. So, I have my first ever job interview on Monday, and I just hope I'll be able to seem normal and professional, and the kind of responsible young adult who can handle a real job. I'm so pumped about this! Maybe my summer will be filled with work after all.

There is also something else pretty major coming up on Monday, which is the first part of my exams at school. I'm starting up with English, and on Monday it's time for my English listening comprehension test. It's considered extremely difficult (there have even been rumors about a professor somewhere in Oxford who did the test and didn't do so well on it, but this information might not be very trustworthy...).

We've been practicing the tests on class for a couple of years now, but they are still really hard for most of us. One of the reasons they're so challenging is the multiple answers system. The right answer is usually the one that's not only correct, but the most correct. There might be other answers that qualify in theory, but you have to know how to choose the one that's most likely (or sometimes I think it's just random). The questions are usually about something pretty weird. Like once I think there was something about organic potatoes and wars between farmers, and a crocodile that jumped into somebody's fountain. 

I don't like the way these exams measure not our English hearing skills but also our inference skills. This should be about learning a language, and in real life you don't have to differentiate between two possible answers, you can just ask for clarification. You can talk and you can listen, and if you don't completely understand, you can ask. That's something that none of the test measure - your ability to adapt to new situations with a foreign language and actually communicate in day to day basis. 

That was way too much thinking on one text. What has everyone been up to lately? I got a gym membership once again, next week is prom (and yes there will be photos), and I'm focusing on a really great book, which is rare. Maybe I'll even write about the book.
